NMSA for regularization of contractual services

Kohima, April 12 (MExN): The Nagaland Medical Students’ Association (NMSA) expressed sadness over the recent imbroglio between Nagaland In-service Doctors Association (NIDA) and state Government.

The Association has made an appeal for amicable solution between the parties in the best interest of the public without any hindrance in providing health services.

It highlighted the importance of recruiting qualified and well trained medical graduates doctors through open NPSC Examination. NMSA appealed to all right thinking civil organizations and the Government to prevent any dilution of the recruiting machinery by regularization of contractual services which will lead to crumble in the standards of health care service in the State.

NMSA applauded the state government’s sincere efforts in materializing the recent upgradation and creation of new post in the Department of Health and Family Welfare, the mass recruitment held in 2020 to fill the void created by the shortage of health service providers during the pandemic speaks for itself.

“However, to maintain the standard of medical profession, all appointment made contractually should be streamlined in batches by requisitioning those contractual post to NPSC in the next 5 years so that the current holders of those contractual post and new Medical Graduates would have the equal opportunity to render their service to public,” the Association stated.

It mentioned that every year at least 60 Naga MBBS doctors are produced across various Medical Colleges in the country and abroad, and with at least another 300 students undergoing MBBS course in various years. With about 250 plus MBBS doctors vying for a handful of government medical officer post when advertised through NPSC, there is no dearth of takers.

Therefore, NMSA vouch for fair and equal opportunity for every medical graduate through competitive NPSC exam.
