NUSU (L) appeals to BRO for road repair

Lumami, April 13 (MExN): The Nagaland University Students’ Union, Lumami today made an appeal to the Director General, Border Roads Organization, New Delhi for repair of the road between NH-61, Setsu Junction and Nagaland University, Lumami.

In the appeal note appended by NUSU (L) President X Chophika Sumi and General Secretary Merenyanger Jamir, it was stated that as per the written reply given by the BRO to the University, the construction of the road was supposed to be completed before March 2016. “However, even after the expiry of the deadline, only half of the stretch has been repaired while the other half remains in tatters,” the Student organisation stated.

NUSU (L) also expressed displeasure as it has been brought to their knowledge that the project which has not even been completed has been handed over to some other agency. “This news came as an utter dismay to the students’ community as we have been suffering untold miseries due to the poor and deplorable road,” the Union stated.

The Union also highlighted that the execution for the renovation of the road began way back in August 21, 2013 and even after a span of one and half years, the fact that the BRO has not been able to renovate the road which stretches to approx. “10 Kilometres from Setsu Junction to Nagaland University Headquarters, Lumami Campus is incredulity. Besides the reason stated by the Organization for the delay of work which includes security problem, theft of stores, weather condition etc. is a silly justification.”

Therefore, the Union requests the authority concerned to take up the matter and initiate necessary steps to complete the renovation of the remaining part at the earliest possible time.
