DIMAPUR, JULY 20 (MExN): The Rotary Club Dimapur has announced that any child suffering from congenital hear disease and in need of cardiac surgery can avail of open heart surgery under the Rotary’s ‘Gift of Life Project’. This was informed in a press note issued by its President Akokla Lucy and Secretary Omprakash Gupta.
Pointing out that congenital heart disease is a fatal disease that can, left untreated, claim lives, it informed that approximately, 6 to 8 out of every thousand children are afflicted with the disease and that only few of these children have access to medical treatment. “Often life- saving surgery, the only option, involves high cost which very few can afford. For the poor, it is a death sentence, helpless in the face of poverty”, the press note informed while adding that Rotary understands and shares this pain of the underprivileged families.
Thus the “Gift of Life” was born. This project was launched in the year Dec 2002. Countless children ever since have been given a second lease of life, sponsored by Rotary Clubs across the country to avail free cardiac surgery at reputed medical institutions in India, it informed and added that Rotary Club of Dimapur since the inception of the “Gift of Life” project has sponsored more than 26 children, ranging from the age group of 0-12 years. “All these children are from poor families, of low income category. Our sponsored children have availed the best medical treatment and surgery in highly reputed medical institutions at Delhi such as Escorts Hospital, National Heart Institute, Fortis Hospital and Pushpanjalli. Indeed, for all these children it has been a gift of life”, it stated.
Encouraged and uplifted by the success story, the Rotary Club of Dimapur stated that it was even more committed to continue with the “Gift of Life” project.
