Over 3 lakh functional household tap connections in Nagaland

Under Jal Jeevan Mission, the Public Health Engineering (PHE) Department has been able to provide more than 3 lakh Functional Household Tap Connections in Nagaland till date, covering 719 Villages/ Habitations, out of 1548 rural villages/ habitations

Nagaland’s Governor La Ganesan said this in his address at the fourth session of 14th Nagaland Legislative Assembly in Kohima.
He said that horticulture department is taking steps for area expansion of various horticultural crops like Kiwi, Dragon Fruit, Pineapple, Papaya, Banana, Vegetables and Spices.

Under PMKSY, an area of 5233 hectares would be covered with micro-irrigation systems such as Drip Irrigation and Sprinkler to ensure availability of irrigation for horticultural crops.

Under NEC, the Department of Horticulture has got approval for three projects, namely 'Setting up of Cold Storages' 'Integrated Processing Unit and Pack House for Pineapple', which are aimed at strengthening the post harvest management.

Another project is 'Setting up of Demonstration Unit for Exotic Crops such as Hazelnut, Kiwi, Peach, Nectarine, Apricot and Plum', which aims to promote exotic fruit crops in Nagaland through adoption of scientific technology.

The Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Department is taking up skilling and capacity building for the entrepreneurs and farmers. Towards this, the department is constructing a new Regional Training Centre at Lerie, Kohima which is expected to be completed very soon.

Further, to strengthen the Veterinary Health Services in the State, the Department has established 2 more Veterinary Hospitals at Tseminyu & Mangkolemba under NABARD which are nearing completion.

Ganesan said that the fisheries sector in the state continues to witness notable growth both vertically and horizontally.

During the current year, under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana the department successfully created 2 units of circular hatchery, and 150 hectare water bodies, benefiting 1050 fish farmers covering all the districts.

“The Department is making efforts to enhance aquaculture productivity from existing 2.5 tonnes to 3.0 tonnes per hectare,” Ganesan said.

The Sericulture sector secured employment for 17,350 persons through the rearing of silkworms.
