Dimapur, August 12 (MExN): Responding to criticism at what his detractors now call the “new bedrock,” Congress leader K Therie today appealed for magnanimity and objective perspective to issues such as the Naga political problem. The former Finance minister said that his opinions stating a number of “demands” as a solution to the vexed Naga political issue were nothing more than a personal paper, unrelated to Political Affairs Committee of the Congress and unrelated to any of the Naga underground groups.
The former Nagaland People’s Front minister issued a response to the NPF’s criticism today calling for more objective perspective in addressing the vexed problem. Stating the future of the generations, he said one has to concern himself with broaching suggestions and opinions to issues at hand.
“Let us be more decent and show our maturity and magnanimity to the people at least in finding political solution. Solution does not belong to any political party. It belongs to the people,” Therie stated. He referred to his statement on August 7 and said “it appears to be my rough working paper within family and not expected for publication and certainly not charter of demand of NSCN (IM) as alleged by NSCN (K). Please be clear this not charter of demand.”
“Also please be clear that this has nothing to do with PAC of NPCC as yet. I said since it was published, people are at liberty to consider and suggest with amendment, addition, deletion and to accept or reject.” The Congress leader apologized for “making my personal rough working paper, if it differs with NPF.”
If the NPF is unhappy and has no suggestion to the solution, he said, as it has decided to play the role of mere active facilitator “its ok.” The rejoinder hoped that the Naga People’s front (NPF) will not raise objection in future when agreements are signed. “As for me, since my future and the new generations’ future are at stake in the solution and that it is our fundamental right to assert the political and economic aspirations of our people, we shall provide suggestions for solution, subject to ratification,” Therie said.
He said additional suggestions and amendments have been received and he shall continue to “improve the proposal” with suggestions from various quarters and continue to welcome all the ‘suggestions and rejections’. The Congress leader said that the regional party in ruling at that time is responsible for bringing the Shillong Accord causing divisions and “torturous voyage that we have travelled for 36 years now.”
“We also know that the voice of the regional party cannot draw the attention and respect of all factions and sections of Nagaland. We also know NPF has also lost relations with all the neighboring states and political parties in the nation. If at all any solution, the solution has to be inclusive and will be inclusive,” Therie added.
