Patkai looks ahead to golden jubilee with 49th Foundation Day

The Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) today commemorated its 49th Foundation Day, casting its gaze towards the imminent 50th milestone next year, besides acknowledging and reaffirming the contribution by two donor villages - Chümoukedima and Seithekema.

The donation was acknowledged and reaffirmed with the customary practice of handing over a rooster and a kilo of salt by the PCC Principal, Dr Thepfüvilie Pierü to the donor villages at the celebration held at the college’s Bundrock Chapel-cum-Auditorium.

Meanwhile, setting sights on the college’s 50th anniversary next year, Principal Emeritus PCC Rev Dr Tuisem A Shishak unveiled the Golden Jubilee logo and led the gathering in a special prayer of blessing. 

Elucidating on the logo, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science AG Samuel informed that the logo is written in golden colour, signifying highest standard and respect.

The words are imposed within a circle with green background signifying life, he said. 

Further, celebrating the college motto, ‘Light and Truth,’ the logo signifies victory, peace, youthful leader, strength and power, he added. It was informed that the logo was designed by Sopei Joel Rungsung, Assistant Professor, Department of Mass Communication, PCC. 

Speaking on the occasion, PCC Board of Trustees Member and Treasurer, Dr Kevingulie Khro noted that the foundation day was a reflection of the past journey that has brought the college thus far, as it embarks into another year.

“This is the time to remember all those who has struggled to shape this college. It’s a time to say thank you,” he added. 

This place was once a ‘jungle and a roaming place for wild animals’ but today it is one the best and the finest colleges in the North-East India, he maintained. 

“It was all made possible because of two donor villages who has graced the college and our principal Shishak and his lady wife,” Dr Khro added. 

The BoT Treasurer further stated that the PCC was established in the belief that “Education should encompass a complete development of students within the framework of moral absolute.” 

He further encouraged the faculty and staff as well as the students to have faith in their ability, strive to achieve goodness of live, be diligent. 

Give attention to the wisdom and lessons provided by your teachers and elders, he further advised the students. 
Dr Khro also encouraged all stakeholders to give tireless effort, unwavering dedication and unflinching support for the upliftment of the college. 

Earlier, PCC Principal, Dr Thepfüvilie Pierü gave the welcome address while a special number was presented by the Margaret Shishak School of Music, PCC. 

Other highlights of the event included felicitation of semester toppers. 

It must be noted here that Patkai, one of the premier institutions in the North-East, was established in August 28, 1974 on 1000 acres of land donated by Chümoukedima and Seithekema. 

Starting with just 20 students, the college over the years has set many benchmarks along the way, including the distinction of being the first college in Nagaland and the North-East to conferred autonomous status by the University Grant Commission (UGC) in 2005. 

In 2023, it became the first in Nagaland and second in the North-East to be ranked among top-200 college in India as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF), under the Union Ministry of Education.

The college today is a multidisciplinary institution of higher education offering courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, Music, Mass Communication, and Computer Science & IT offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
