PCC conducts workshop on NEP 2020

Patkai, June 14 (MExN): A one-day workshop on ‘curriculum framework and examination reforms in National Education Policy 2020’ organised by Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) was held at the college campus on June 12.

A press release received here stated that the resource persons, Dr Amitabh Baruah, Joint Controller of Examination, Dibrugarh University delved at length the salient features of NEP 2020 to a gathering of teachers, examination officials and college administration.

Speaking on assessment reforms in NEP 2020, Dr Baruah stated that NEP 2020 is targeted at performance, assessment, review and analysis of knowledge for holistic development. Informing about the Curriculum and Credit Framework for Undergraduate Programmes, Dr Baruah highlighted that the framework is to incorporate a flexible choice-based credit system, a multidisciplinary approach with multiple entry and exit options. 

He said this will facilitate students to pursue their career path by giving them the option to choose a subject of their interest without having to limit oneself with just one major discipline or honours. 

Dr Baruah informed that the NEP 2020 is focusing on areas of community engagement and service, environmental education, professional and value-based education.

He further stated that the NEP 2020 gives flexibility to move from one discipline of study to another and also move from one institution to another through the help of Academic Bank of Credit of the students. The learners will be given the opportunity to choose the courses of their interest in all disciplines, he added.

He also explained about various academic levels of the NEP 2020 such as UG Certificate Programme, UG Diploma Programme, Three years UG Degree Programme, Four year UG Programme and Four year UG Programme with research. 

Dr Baruah impressing upon the transformative initiatives in the undergraduate programme underlined the adoption of flexible curricular structures that the NEP 2020 has initiated to enable creative combinations of disciplinary areas for study in multidisciplinary contexts focused at development of all capacities of human being. 

Earlier, PCC, Principal Dr Thepfuvilie Pieru welcomed the resource person and expressed hope that the session will help the faculties in understanding the policy and its framework better. COE PCC, Dr Sanjeev Kumar Dey Baidya moderated the Q&A session while VP, PCC Dr Rudowhelie Peseyie proposed the vote of thanks.
