CHÜMOUKEDIMA, FEBRUARY 27 (MExN): The Department of Education at Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) organized a one-day seminar on February 27, focusing on the theme "Significance of Emotional Intelligence in Personal and Academic Success."

James Inaho Swu, Associate Professor at Trinity Theological College, Dimapur, served as the resource person for the seminar.

In his address, Swu explained the critical role of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in both personal and academic spheres. He defined EI as the ability to identify, understand, manage, and use emotions effectively in oneself and in interactions with others, often referred to as Emotional Quotient (EQ). Swu explained that heightened emotions could often impair cognitive function, stressing the importance of emotional awareness and management.

Swu highlighted the key components of EI, including self-control, emotional awareness, and the management of impulses. He noted how EI contributes to building secure relationships, improving mental health, making informed decisions, enhancing self-motivation, and promoting resilience and stress management.

A key aspect of Swu's presentation was the emphasis on active listening and self-reflection as strategies for improving EI. He encouraged participants to handle negative feedback constructively, considering it a reflection of high emotional intelligence. In addition, Swu shared practical strategies for developing EI, offering a checklist for attendees to evaluate their own emotional intelligence levels.

Reiterating the importance of EI in personal and academic success, Swu maintained that EI supersedes all other intelligence while underscoring its value in achieving personal growth and academic excellence.

Earlier, the session opened with a welcome address from Neilevono Vupru, Dean of Social Science, who also led the invocation.
