Dimapur, January 31 (MExN): The Wipro earthian Annual Awards marked the culmination of this year-long journey and dedication, inquiry, and innovation demonstrated by students and educators from schools and colleges nationwide.
An update received here informed that a total of 25 winning school teams were selected from over 2,000 project submissions after multiple rounds of rigorous evaluation by an independent jury.
Among the awardees, the Sustainability and Water Team of PM Shri Government High School, Kiruphema, Kohima was also awarded the prestigious award for their exemplary work.
The Wipro earthian Program, now in its 15th year, continues to strengthen Wipro’s long-standing commitment to education and ecology by fostering sustainability-oriented thinking among students and educators across India. The program provides a unique platform for participants to engage meaningfully with critical sustainability themes such as water, biodiversity, and waste through hands-on projects and experiential learning.
Over the years, Wipro earthian has reached more than 51,000 schools, 210,000 students, and 41,000 teachers across 28 states and 6 Union Territories, establishing itself as one of India’s most impactful sustainability education initiatives.
The winning teams reflect the country’s rich geographical and cultural diversity, spanning from Nagaland to the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and from Ladakh to Tamil Nadu.
The awards ceremony celebrated not only the achievements of students and teachers but also acknowledged the vital role played by families in nurturing values of sustainable thinking and ecological responsibility.
The event was graced by Anurag Behar, CEO of the Azim Premji Foundation, and P S Narayan, Global Head of Sustainability and ESG, Wipro Limited, and Managing Trustee, Wipro Foundation, along with other senior leaders from Wipro.
Beyond the awards, the event offered a rich and immersive learning experience. Winning students and teachers participated in nature walks, creative workshops on art, storytelling, and musical writing, and plenary sessions on key sustainability themes, all curated by experts in the field.
The programme also featured a special musical performance by Vasu Dixit and an inspiring talk by renowned wildlife biologist and conservation scientist Dr Ravi Chellam.
Through the Wipro earthian Programme, Wipro reaffirms its commitment to promoting integrated sustainability education and empowering the next generation to think critically, act responsibly, and contribute meaningfully towards a more sustainable future.
