Raj Bhavan Kohima gets state-of-the-art banquet hall

Kohima | August 12 : The Raj Bhavan at Kohima - home to the constitutional head of the state of Nagaland, the Governor - today became one of the best Raj Bhavans of the Northeast region with the inauguration of the newly-constructed state-of-the-art banquet hall. The imposing and spacious new Banquet Hall of the Raj Bhavan, complete with impressive interior designs of Naga motif, was formally inaugurated today by Governor Nikhil Kumar in presence of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his Cabinet colleagues and MLAs and Leader and members of the Opposition Congress.
While the governor unveiled the monolith of the newly-constructed banquet hall, the Chief Minister cut the ribbon at the entrance of the banquet hall in presence of a cheering gathering that included the state’s who-is-who.
Briefly addressing the gathering, the governor expressed profound gratitude and appreciation to all those who have been involved in the construction, supervision and initiative of the banquet hall of the Raj Bhavan. In particular, he expressed his profound appreciation for use of the Naga motif concept in the interior designing while also praising Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s initiative in personally involving himself in the supervision and speeding up the construction work.
During his brief address, he also lauded the state Public Works Department (PWD) for accomplishing, what he called, an outstanding job, noting that and the banquet hall has come out really well and beyond expectations.
While interacting with newsmen on the sidelines of the inaugural function, the Governor expressed total satisfaction with the construction and design of the new Banquet Hall of the Raj Bhavan, noting that now Raj Bhavan Kohima has all complete components of a Raj Bhavan and that it he feels the Kohima Raj Bhavan may be the best Raj Bhavan in the entire region.
As a token of his appreciation, he presented mementos to Kakoli Barkakoti, the interior designer and M/S Chabou & Co, the contractor of the Banquet Hall.
The building is equipped with rainwater harvesting facility and a sound system and was constructed at a total cost of Rs. 8.96 crores while additional staff quarters were also constructed by the construction company taking the total to about Rs.11 crore.  Today’s programme was attended by Speaker Kiyaneilie, Rio’s council of ministers, Opposition Congress Leader, NPCC President and Congress MLAs, Parliamentary Secretaries, local MLAs, Chief Secretary, Chief Information Commissioner and a host of government bureaucrats.
