Kohima | September 10 : The much awaited RockAware contest was launched today, September 10 at Heritage, Kohima. Altogether 12 bands are vying for the Kohima district title. The contest has been launched with an objective to reach young people and make them aware of HIV and AIDS so that it helps in reducing the high rate of prevalence in the State.
Addressing the gathering, MLA & Advisor of Music Task Force (MTF), Dr. Nicky Kire, who was the chief guest at the launching programme, cautioned whether ‘we’ really care for the infected persons as it is usually the case that the blame is often pushed upon the patients and more often than not we fail to show our part that ‘we care’.
Commenting on the criticisms commented in a social networking site, Kire said whoever puts in more effort in any work then criticism follows and said that it depends upon a person to pick up things and start.
Kire also opined that infected persons should be the ambassadors as they have more knowledge and experience about the disease and the testimony they carry will be a strong point to touch the hearts of the people. He also suggested that school and churches should also get involved to fight against the dreadful disease.
“RockAware is not organized to spread the disease but to create awareness to bring down the rate working in our own capacity”, said Kire and urged everyone especially the youths to work together in bringing down the prevalence rate of Nagaland from its current position in the Top 6 of high HIV/AIDS prevalence states in the country.
Earlier Project Director of NSACS Dr Nandira Changkija, said music happens to be one of the most natural interests of the Nagas. “The last two years being a success story not only because of the musicians but also through the support of the audience and concerned people”, said the project director.
She added that the intention of the contest is to show the infected persons “how much we care”. The judges of the Kohima audition included Dr. Tolto Metha, Andrew and Thejove. The next audition will be held at Phek district on September 13.
