SAMETI training on empowering women farmers and upgrading skills

Medziphema, December 3 (MExN): State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI), Medziphema organised a two-day  training programme on “Sensitization Training programme for Sustainable Livelihood for FSGs, SHGs and Farm women” on December 2 and 3.

The training programme was aimed to empower the women farmers in improving and upgrading their skills and also to create sustainable livelihood through cultivation of Shitake mushroom and value addition of Horticulture crops, a press release stated on Friday. 

During the inaugural programme Dr Watila Jamir, Director SAMETI, Medziphema & Principal IETC delivered a key note address where she encouraged the FSGs, SHGs and Farm women to be open to new opportunities and to never cease to learn new ideas and latest technology. She also spoke about the different roles of farm women groups in agriculture and allied sectors and their impact in empowering farm women, boosting opportunities and income generation, the release stated.

Maismao SHGs under Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, Dhansiripar block as the resource person explained on the blooming agriculture industry of Shitake mushroom which is gaining demand in the state of Nagaland as well as other states. Resource persons for the training on Value addition of Horticulture Crops was Bendangla Longkumer from Akholari Pvt Ltd under Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission, Dimapur who presented hands-on demonstration on preparation of ginger pickle and king chilli pickle.

The training was followed by interaction session and the participants raised queries on various aspects of the agriculture and allied sectors. On the whole, the training programme saw a good turnout of participants; feedback was received from all the participants and certificates were forwarded to the participants, the release stated.
