SLB stresses on importance of Sütsah

Dimapur, February 17 (MExN): Sumi Hoho organized a farewell cum welcome programme for Sumi Literature Board (SLB) members at Sumi Hoho Ki on February 17.

A press release issued by Sumi Hoho, Media Affairs stated that in his opening remark, Sumi Hoho, President, Hekhushe Shikhu stressed on the importance of Sütsah among the Sumi community. “We will lose our tribe if Sütsah is lost,” he said.

SLB outgoing chairman, Dr Hokishe Yepthomi reminded the gathering on the commitments of the elders and leaders to form the board which has provided a platform for Sumi community to continue learning Sütsah.

“After lots of hard work and dedication”, Dr Hokishe said SLB has reached a “certain stage” but lamented that the outgoing team could not get the recognition of Sütsah as a subject at the graduate level. He wished the new team to take up the task to get the recognition. 

In regard to the change in spelling pattern, Dr Hokishe said that the present MIL textbooks needs to be rectified so that the students taking up MIL subjects does not get confused with the spelling pattern. He suggested some eminent writers and scholars among the Sumi community who can help SLB in its work.

The newly elected SLB Chairman Vihoshe Muru mentioned that a plan was made years back to introduce MIL even in private schools but it could not be materialized. He added that besides getting the recognition for BA course, another challenge will be to bring out the textbooks at the high school level in order to introduce MIL even in private schools.
