Participants of the one-day training on the implementation of Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) conducted by District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mon on November 15.

Mon, November 16 (MExN): A one-day training on the implementation of Tobacco Free Educational Institutions (ToFEI) guidelines was conducted by the District Tobacco Control Cell (DTCC) Mon on November 15 for teachers as well as officers from police and education department.
Addressing the training, Dr Amenla, Junior Dental Specialist, District hospital Mon highlighted on the harmful effects of tobacco consumption, including passive and third-hand smoking.
She also highlighted on the effects of betel nuts and the risk of cancer especially mouth cancer due to usages.
Meanwhile, E Nyeamying Konyak, District Consultant, DTCC Mon briefed the participants about the guidelines of ToFEI and emphasised on the role of the school management and authorities for the effective implementation the guidelines.
She also highlighted on the provisions of COTPA (Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act) 2003 in relation to educational institution and its penalties.
The Consultant also introduced Tobacco Free App to the participants and shared that the educational institutions can use self evaluation scorecard to declare their school tobacco-free via the app.
Violation of COTPA 2003 can also be reported on the app.
AEO (Assistant Educational Officer), DEO Office Mon Bejem also encouraged the participants to share the learning from the training to others at their respective schools.
She also urged the school management to ensure that no shops sell tobacco products near 100 yards of educational institution.
The training held at the DRDA Conference Hall Mon, was chaired by Kenie Thong, Councellor District Hospital Mon.
