Teachers’ unrest a result of Govt’s apathy: NPCC

Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has blamed the cause of unrest of the teachers’ community in the state on ‘long apathy’ and ‘arrogance’ of the Nagaland government. The NPCC’s media cell issued a note today denouncing the incident but holding the government responsible for the unrest.
“The incident was the result of the DAN government’s long apathy (since 2002) to the problems of the teachers who have been drained economically, physically and mentally,” the NPCC stated in its note.
Had the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government shown political will and solved the problem in time, the Congress stated, “the injuries inflicted on the public and loss of properties could have been avoided.”
The NPCC urges the government to bring the impasse “to a logical end within a time-frame” for the larger interest of students. “In trying to save a few corrupt ministers, the entire student community of one generation should not be ruined,” the Congress reminded.
The opposition also held Home minister of Nagaland responsible for yesterday’s reported violence in Kohima between agitating teachers and police forces.  The Home minister is ‘morally responsible for the unruly behaviors of the personnel’. The party ahs demanded exemplary action against “those who think that law is in their hands and they are immune from prosecution.”
The NPCC further demanded “adequate extra-gratia” to the injured and compensation for the damages and loss of properties.
The NPCC denounced the violence. “The incident not only disturbed public peace and order but also caused damage and loss to public properties. The high-handedness of the police/IRB personnel led by SDPO Kohima on innocent pedestrians and forced closing of the shops was most shocking,” the Congress said.
Stating the incident is not the first time the public has suffered in the hands of law enforcement agencies, the Congress said, the incident “amply reflected the arrogant attitude of the DAN government. The publics are no longer safe in the hands of the tyrannical government.”
The Congress then ridiculed the government for its regular ‘flip-flops. “If the flip-flop decisions in recent times are any indication, the DAN government is absolutely nervous and confused. Be it in recommending autonomous council for ENPO areas, retention and regularization of teachers, special recruitment to the post of EAC for backward tribes, etc., governance has been brought to the lowest ebb. Governance has been reduced to money-minting business,” the NPCC reminded.
The DAN government has miserably failed and lost all moral rights to continue, the opposition added.
