Dimapur, August 11 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) today termed Congress leader K Therie’s “new 33 points charter of demands” over the Naga political issue as the “new Bedrock of Naga Society.” The Congress must come out clearly with its agenda or “else apologize to the Naga people for another of its blunders,” the party demanded.
“Therie’s agenda has also been exposed and he fully supports the party and leaders who had authored ‘The Bedrock of Naga Society’. The new 33 points charter of demands prepared by Therie as admitted by him in his statement published in local paper on 7th August, 2011 is perhaps the new ‘Therie’s Bedrock’ endorsed by the Political Affairs Committee of the Congress,” the NPF stated in a response from the party’s Media cell.
The NPF denounced the 33-points ‘charter of demands’ prepared by K. Therie, Convener of the Political Affairs Committee of the Nagaland Congress, and endorsed by the Political Affairs Committee of the Congress Party in Nagaland.
“The Indo-Naga political dialogue is being carried out between the Government of India and the Naga undergrounds, and therefore it is surprising to observe that the Congress leaders in Nagaland under the guise of a Political Affairs Committee has discussed and endorsed a document that contains a charter of demands,” NPF explained. “This shows the intent and hidden agenda of the Congress, despite the fact that the Congress is not a party to the ongoing dialogue.”
Stating that the Congress cannot take the Naga people for granted, the NPF is convinced that “this episode has once again exposed the double game of the Congress.” The NPF expressed ‘surprise’ that in spite of having been in power for more than 20 years, the Congress Political Affairs Committee “has woken up to the need for a political settlement of the Naga political issue only now, when it is in opposition.” The NPF wondered “what was the Congress doing when it was in power.”
On the part of the NPF, the note claimed “the DAN government established its political affairs as soon as it formed the Government in 2003 and has continued to play the role of active facilitator till today.” However, the regional party said, “the Congress seems to have realized this need only now, and it is all the more ironical that the Congress has to depend on K. Therie as Convener of the committee.”
K Therie was dismissed and expelled from the Congress party for opposing the publication of the Congress booklet authored by SC Jamir, “The Bedrock of Naga Society”, the party said. Therie is today Convener of the Congress PAC with former Chief Minister SC Jamir, NPCC president SI Jamir and the leader of opposition Tokheho as members of the Committee. “The Drama seems to have come full circle,” the NPF added.
