Nagaland CM calls for ‘united final push’ for solution

Kohima, February 16 (MExN): Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Tuesday stressed the need to rise above differences and come together for the greater cause.

Speaking at the 7th session of the 13th NLA, the CM stated that a political solution that is honourable and acceptable to the Naga people would usher in a new era of rapid economic growth, all round progress and greater employment opportunities for the youth.

Given an encouraging environment, the CM expressed strong belief that the youth and children of Nagaland could achieve success and excellence in every field.

“At this critical juncture, it is of utmost importance that the Naga society must stand as one, speak as one, and give a final push to collectively achieve a settlement and remove the shackles that burden our society once and for all,” Rio said.

A democratic and just settlement of the Naga Political issue will not only bring permanent peace and stability to the entire north eastern region of the country, but it will also directly strengthen the democratic foundations of this great nation, he added.

Stating that it is time to rise above differences and come together for the greater cause of our land and children, the CM appealed to all sections to continue to strive towards ‘true and genuine unity.’

While urging the negotiating parties to expedite the peace process, and bring a solution at the earliest, the CM also said, “…we give the assurance of this House that we will play the role of facilitator in every possible manner.”

The CM meanwhile acknowledged the role and support of the mass-based civil society organizations, tribal hohos, church organizations, Forum for Naga Reconciliation, and NGOs besides the Naga Political Parties in the Naga political issue.

These organizations have made significant contributions and sacrifices towards reconciliation and unity. We acknowledge their role and extend our appreciation to all these sections while urging them to continue to work towards true Naga unity, Rio said.

Terming Tuesday’s discussion ‘fruitful’, the CM suggested that the House in future “propose a resolution, select a drafting committee inclusive of all political parties and brought out in good times, so that our collective voice will be heard far and near, and our unity will send out a positive message of hope, strengthening the efforts of all stakeholders towards unity and oneness.”

Seeks cooperation from neighboring states

The CM further appealed to the people of all the neighboring states to extend all possible cooperation so that the peace process can conclude in a successful manner, and peace and stability may come in the entire region. “Destiny has brought us together as neighbors, and neighbors we will remain for all times to come. Let us live together with mutual understanding under a spirit of peaceful co-existence, respecting each other’s democratic rights and aspirations,” he said.
