The Department of Horticulture, Kiphire organised training on post harvest management of fruit and vegetables under low cost preservation unit (NEC 2020-21) with Lipichem, DPO, Department of Land Resources (DoLR), Kiphire as special guest at Horticulture Office, Kiphire on November 16.

Speaking at the occasion, the DPO observed that Kiphire population being mostly farmers has lot of raw material available but many go waste due to lack of preservation and management. He opined that “with this training the people will be able to generate economic sustainability.”

Sharing more observation Lipichem said, “Many people think only of short term and because of this development are less visible on the ground” and asked the participants to change ones mindset for benefits of all. 

“With the advancement of technology there is no excuse for marketing if brand is made which may take time, but ethics and hygiene should be taken care,” he added. 

“With training as this we are also taking part in SDG of the UN because we are going to save lot of carbon footprint in the environment,” he said.

Sharing the potential of the district he said, “If we are not lazy we will progress but if we make excuses we will be stagnant.” With unemployment issue all over, this training will surely find space for youth to be self employed in the in the long run, he concluded. 

Sukanya, MGN fellow who also spoke on the occasion shared on various opportunities for establishing business and encouraged the farmers to work together for large scale production. She shared about the project, programmes and avenues for farming community to get support from government.

Temjenna Jamir, Agrometrologis KVK Kiphire demonstrate on Guava Jam making techniques, Guava Jelly making techniques where participants got an opportunity to practice the art. She spoke on importance and scope of post Harvest management technology management in Kiphire. Nzanthung, T Yanthan, District Fishery Officer demonstrated on fish pickle techniques. Seroba sangtam, HEA spoke on post Harvest technology management of fruits and vegetables.

Atoholi, WDT DoLR shared on importance of natural tea and the scope in the district. She also demonstrated the process of natural tea packaging. Senti Longchar, DHO in the welcome note informed that the training is part of post pandemic program which is under NEC programme.

Participants were provided with equipment, material for making pickles, jam and jelly.
