DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 13 (MExN): An 18 member ULFA delegation led by Chairman Mr. Arabinda Rajkhowa made a courtesy visit to GPRN/NSCN Collective Leadership Gen. (Retd.) Khole Konyak, Chairman and N Kitovi Zhimomi, Gen. Secretary at Council Camp Khehoi on September 13, 2001. This was informed in a press note issued by MIP GPRN/NSCN.
It was a visit primarily to express and appreciate the Naga Reconciliation Process which had impressed all neighbouring nations and peoples, stated the press note while reaffirming that the “friendship between Nagas and Assamese dates back to hundreds of years and that the ULFA, during the early years of its formation had made eastern Nagaland their base”.
Agree to forge closer ties to maintain peace and tranquillity between the two peoples
“The friendship and revolutionary spirit built during their early years was entrenched between the two revolutionary groups. Solidarity and strengthening of bond between Assamese and Nagas was their primary objective and GPRN/NSCN on its part appreciated the pro-people initiatives being taken by ULFA”, the press note stated.
Meanwhile a joint statement was issued at the end of the meeting whereby the ULFA delegation expressed solidarity to the Naga people for exhibiting great courage in undertaking the Naga Reconciliation Process. Having acknowledged the age old bond shared by Nagas and the Assamese, the two sides agreed to further forge a closer relationship to maintain peace and tranquillity between the two peoples.
Both sides further affirmed to work in close co-ordination with each other and pursue their respective political issues with the Government of India (GOI) in consultation with their people and seek honourable and acceptable permanent political solutions through peaceful means.
