In what it termed as actions “in total defiance” of the Party’s Resolutions,  the Naga People’s Front (NPF) today issued show cause notices to two of its sitting Members of Parliament, KG Kenye and Dr Lorho S Pfoze for voting in favour of the CAB/CAA 2019.

Kenye, who is also the Secretary General of the NPF, is the Party’s and Nagaland lone representative to Rajya Sabha while Dr Pfoze is the Party’s representative to Lok Sabha for Outer Manipur.

The Lok Sabha voted for the Bill on December 9 while in Rajya Sabha, it was taken up two days later on December 12.

The notices were issued after the Party’s Disciplinary Action Committee (DAC) held a meeting on December 19 at Central Office Kohima to deliberate on the action of the MPs in the recent Parliament session on CAB/CAA issue.

In similarly worded notices, both MPS were asked to explain why they voted in favour of Citizenship Amendment Bill/Act 2019 in the Parliament, in ‘total defiance’ of the Party’s ‘Resolutions’ after having won their respective seats on tickets issued by NPF.

The NPF’s ‘Core Committee’ meeting on January 30 and the Central Executive Council (CEC) meeting on January 31, 2019 have “passed a Resolution and on both the meetings resolved to oppose the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB/CAA),” the notice informed.

The same resolution was reiterated in the Party’s Consultative Meeting held on March 30, 2019 at the NPF Central Office, Kohima, it added.

The show cause notice to Kenye further reminded him that as the current Secretary General of the NPF, he was is expected of him to “act/vote in consonance with the standing Resolutions of the Party.”

Likewise, it was also pointed out to Dr Pfoze that as a current CEC member of the party, he was expected to “act/vote in consonance with the standing Resolutions of the Party.”

In this connection, the DAC directed both the MPs to explain “why Disciplinary Action” should not be initiated against them.

The two MPs were further directed to submit their reply within 7 days from the date of issue of the notices, i.e. on or before December 26.
