Dimapur, April 25 (MExN): The Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) on Sunday made a peace appeal to the Sumi and Zeliang community amid the “loss of lives, damage to properties, situational developments and unrest arising out of land dispute” between the two communities.
The WCH appealed “to refrain from further provoking or aggravating the situation and let Government Authority look into the matter for a solution.”
While appreciating both communities for trying to resolve the dispute among themselves, the WCH reasoned that practical difficulty exists for disputing parties to decide their own case. But this should not be treated as the end to the possibilities for resolving differences, it added.
“We request both communities to look beyond emotions to bring about peaceful coexistence,” the WCH appealed.
Further, the Hoho urged the government to come up with the ‘will and action’ to judiciously resolve the issue at earliest to prevent further undue situations.
Yielding to the pressures from both parties will only complicate matters. Therefore, what is impartial and lawful must be maintained, the Hoho stated.
The Hoho also appealed the State Government to compensate for the three lives lost which it said, occurred while ‘maintaining status quo’.
