Webinar on National Education Policy 2020

Dimapur, September 20 (MExN):  The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Unity College, Dimapur organized a webinar on the National Education Policy, 2020 on September 18 with the objective to create awareness amongst teaching and non-teaching faculty and students.

According to updates from the college, Dr Adani Ngullie, Assistant Professor from Department of History and Coordinator of IQAC started the session by welcoming the resource person and the participants.

The resource person for the webinar was E Venkatesu who is a Professor from Department of Political science, Hyderabad Central University and also in Centre for the Study of Developing societies-Lokniti network, the updates informed.

Professor E Venkatesu began the session by sharing the aims, basic purpose of the NEP, 2020 and vision of our country to ‘Transform India’ by revamping the structure of education at all levels.

He highlighted some core elements of the policy that is on new structure of education, importance of interdisciplinary subjects at the higher education to fill the gap of knowledge system and diversified course where the student can take up through online mode and significance of CBCS system where the students can opt their choice of subjects and to increase Gross Enrolment Ratio from 26.3 to 50 % by 2035.

He also emphasised on vocational education in which the students can acquire skills along with their degrees so that the country will not face the shortage of labour and become self sufficient.

Further, the resource person shed some light on the role of teacher education institutes to produce quality education and teachers while mentioning the restructuring of the 4-year integrated B.Ed degree course.

He emphasized on revamping of regulatory mechanism which Higher Education Commission of India will be set up and under this umbrella four main verticals- NHERC, GEC, HEGC and NAC will function under it. He also expressed the challenges of the education system in the past along with the present core features of this policy like mushrooming of colleges, allocation and channelizing of funds in the educational sector.

The session ended with a round of discussion and vote of thanks. Around 173 participants from the college participated in this webinar.
