PEREN, February 20 (MExN): The Zeme Leisiname Bau Nagaland (Zeme Students' Union Nagaland) has released a booklet on village administration in Zeme language on February 19.
It was officially released by the Deputy Commissioner Peren, Sentiwapang Aier in the presence of President Zeme Council Nagaland (ZCN), ADC Jalukie; President Nsong Kebai Area Public Organization, Kebai Area Frontal Organization and Village Council Authorities, a ZSUN release informed.
At the event, the ZSUN President Aakam Pame shared how the works for the booklet started with the interpretation of the Nagaland Village Council Act 1978, Government’s Gazettes and other notifications, it said
ZCN President Dr Tumda Newme spoke on the purposes of the booklet, its importance and the need to know the rights and responsibilities the government has given to the villages, it added.
The need to balance the Village Council by focusing more on development rather than copy the election or leadership struggle was shared by ADC Jalukie Dr TinongJongshi, the release said.
Meanwhile, DC Sentiwapang in his speech appreciated the ZSUN for taking the initiative and noted that while many books on village administration and the Nagaland Village Council Act 1978 were available in English, it was rare to find the same in local languages.
He further encouraged the union to keep updating the booklet by inserting latest government gazettes and departmental notifications.
If union can bring more such publications to educate and empower the Village Council authorities, the district administration would ready to extend any material and support in the coming days, he noted.
Sentiwapang further expressed hope that the booklet would create awareness of duties and functions among the village council members and results in transparency, accountability and development.
