Dimapur, March 20 (MExN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised a two days training programme on ‘Scientific Methods and Practices of Mixed Farming and Inter-Cropping’ for ATMA functionaries at SAMETI, Medziphema from March 16 to 17.
The training programme was aimed at imparting technological interventions for doubling farmers’ income and encouraging the practice of integrated farming systems to mitigate crop failure, informed a press release from SAMETI Director on Saturday.
Resource persons for the training programme included Dr AP Singh, Assistant Professor, Department of Agronomy NU: SASRD and Dr Noyingthung Kikon, Jr Agronomist, AICRP Linseed, Department of Agronomy NU: SASRD. Participatory lectures on scientific intervention through intercrops in crop production towards doubling farmer’s income; integrated nutrient and weed management in intercropping system of crop production; integrated farming systems; low external input sustainable agriculture were covered, the release stated.
A field visit to Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Medziphema headed by Arvind Singh, consultant CIH, was also undertaken to impart practical knowledge to the trainees.
SAMETI Director K Renphamo Lotha delivered the valedictory address where he asserted that knowledge should be upgraded continuously to keep up with the latest agricultural innovations. He lauded the ATMA functionaries for taking technology to the doorstep of farmers and encouraged them to stay focused on their work to raise the living standard of farmers. He concluded his speech by saying that crop intensification should be the objective of any agricultural activity for increased productivity, the release stated.
Certificates were distributed to the participants by Director SAMETI while Janet Chishi, DPD SAMETI pronounced the vote of thanks.
