Kohima, June 10 (MExN): District Planning and Development Boards (DPDBs) in Chümoukedima, Longleng and Wokha reviewed a range of development priorities during their monthly meetings held on June 10.
According to official reports from the State DIPR, issues covered included Census preparations, sanitation and waste management, healthcare access, power infrastructure, environmental conservation, transportation and departmental activities aimed at strengthening service delivery and development planning across the districts.
Chümoukedima: At the Chümoukedima DPDB meeting held at DC's Conference Hall on June 10, Advisor for Urban Development & Municipal Affairs and Board Chairman, Zhaleo Rio urged upon all departments to effectively implement government schemes and policies to ensure that benefits reach all beneficiaries.
On sanitation and waste management, he stressed on maintaining cleanliness and directed the Chümoukedima Town Council to ensure regular clearance of waste and garbage.
He also encouraged awareness programmes on waste segregation and proper disposal practices, while assuring continued government support for solid waste management initiatives.
On traffic management, Rio appreciated police efforts to enforce speed limits along the National Highway, stating that the measure would help reduce accidents caused by over-speeding and rash driving.
Stating that no one is above the law, he called for strict enforcement of traffic regulations and action against all violators in accordance with the law. He also welcomed new members to the board.
Deputy Commissioner Polan John highlighted the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls and Census operations and stressed on accurate and error-free data collection.
He also briefed the board on implementation of the revised Solid Waste Management Rules.
The board approved the registration of Yimkhiung Baptist Borü Society, Naga United Village, while advising K S Yimchunger Society, Vidima, to reapply after three years with a No Objection Certificate from the concerned tribal body.
The board further heard presentations on AIDS Suraksha and Census processes, and decided that the Nagaland Pollution Control Board would present on solid waste management at the next meeting.
Longleng: Presiding the Longleng DPDB meeting, Vice-Chairman and DC Longleng, W Manpai Phom informed members about a plantation drive scheduled for June 20 along the highway stretch from Alayung towards Longleng town, involving government departments and village council members.

The board discussed power infrastructure needs, including additional transformers, electrification of Toiching Village and rising power demand, and decided to seek a detailed status report from the Executive Engineer (Transmission), Mokokchung. The Department of Horticulture presented its activities and schemes in the Tamlu area, while the Medical Department gave a PowerPoint presentation on its programmes and achievements.
The Department of Social Welfare was tasked with making a presentation at the next DPDB meeting.
Reviewing the previous meeting minutes, the board agreed to proposal by MLA and DPDB Chairman A Pongshi Phom and decided to felicitate HSLC and HSSLC toppers, along with deserving government officers, during the Independence Day celebration.
Wokha: The Wokha DPDB meeting, chaired by newly appointed Chairman and Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan, reviewed several pending development issues, including the proposed District Hospital, rejuvenation of the Etsutchukha water pond, landslide concerns in the Doyang area and shortage of Nagaland State Transport (NST) bus services.

The board also discussed proposals for establishing health sub-centres at Pyangsa and Aree New villages. Chief Medical Officer Dr Thungchanbemo Ezung highlighted the difficulties faced by villagers in accessing basic healthcare services, while Yanthan stressed the need to strengthen healthcare facilities in the area.
Chairing his first DPDB meeting, Yanthan directed all administrative officers posted outside Wokha town but within the district to attend DPDB meetings regularly and called for active participation from departments to ensure effective governance and public service delivery.
The meeting further reviewed district administration activities, tax administration, solid waste management and traffic regulation.
Yanthan also commended the Lotha Youth Hoho for its efforts to combat drug abuse and informed members that the board would visit de-addiction centres in the district during its next meeting.
As part of the programme, DPDB members visited the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET) and Bailey Baptist College.
Among others, MLA Mhonbemo Humtsoe and Vice Chairman DPDB & Deputy Commissioner Wokha, K Mhathung Tsanglao, also attended the session at DC's Conference Hall Wokha.
