Handicrafts marketing workshop underway in Kohima

The Nagaland department of Industries and Commerce, Director, K Hokishe Assumi today informed that the department would convene a meeting soon to discuss about GIS mapping of Naga shawl and Mekhela.
He was addressing the inaugural of the two day long handicrafts marketing workshop at Hotel Grandeur organized under the aegis of the office of the Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Government of India, Ministry of Textiles, Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima.
The Director told the artisans that the era of subsidy has gone and asked them to be serious in dealing with handicrafts activities. Aadhaar, PAN Card and Bank Account are now mandatory for applying any schemes, Assumi said and called upon the artisans have requisite documents and follow the system accordingly.
Stating that Nagas have inborn talent in the field of weaving/knitting, he called upon the women artisans to utilize their talents and flourish in the handicrafts industry.
Addressing the function, Zakabo Rotoka, Managing Director, Nagaland Handloom & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd urged upon the artisans to improve the finishing touch to add value to their products. He also told them to be innovative and creative. The Managing Director also asked the artisans to have enthusiasm to learn more and more, and also access to various schemes being extended by the government.
Earlier, T Rollee Vareishim, Senior Assistant Director (H) delivered welcome address while vote of thanks was proposed by Rajib Chandra Roy, Handicrafts Promotion Officer, Handicrafts Service Centre Kohima.
Several artisans from Kohima, Dimapur, Phek and Tuensang Districts joined the workshop, which will continue till February 18.
The two day long workshop will cover various topics: packaging of handicrafts items for marketing by state awardee T Yanger, importance of design for handicrafts marketing by empanelled designer Vilekhoto Pusa, importance of quality and utility of handicrafts for marketing by T Rollee Vareishim, Gem portal registration of handicrafts for marking by Rajib Chandra Roy.
On February 18, the workshop will touch on market survey for handicrafts marketing by Lipongse, deputy director, Industries and Commerce Department, health insurance scheme for handicrafts artisans by Aienla Jamir, senior manager LIC, Indira Gandhi National Open University for Handicrafts artisans by Dr Mayonmi Shimray, Regional Director, IGNOU Kohima, availing Mudra loan for handicrafts artisans by Punjab National Bank Kohima, GST application for marketing by GST expert and schemes of development commissioner (Handicrafts) by Senior Assistant Director (H) Handicrafts Service Centre, Kohima.
