The department of Land Resources, Tuensang organized training on coffee cultivation practices and post harvest management at Chare village on April 9 which was also attended by coffee farmers from neighboring villages.

Speaking at the occasion, Puso Thai, Assistant Inspector, Land Resources said taking up coffee as cultivation has lots of benefit as the crop is suitable in our region and it also has good market which is an additional benefit for far-flung places.

He observed that sometimes farmers take up coffee crop cultivation but leave it half way which not only discourage other farmers and the implementing agency but also is a great loss. In this regard, he urged the farmers to take sincere care of the crop. He asked the farmers to share learning experience to other farmers as well so that together they achieve and improve the livelihood of the village. 

Puso spoke on the post harvest management of the crop stressing on the importance of knowing how to harvest as it plays a very important role for price and also the quality of the product.

During technical session Sipong WDT spoke on cultivation and practices. For cultivation of coffee, site selection, aspect, saplings, elevation and shade should be taken care of before taking up the crop cultivation, he shared. He also demonstrated on trimming, planting technique and stacking of the saplings. He assured the farmers of technical support from the department.

Athriti, WDT shared on the development of nursery for coffee crop and said, for coffee to be successful nursery plays an important role. He demonstrated how coffee nursery should be set up so that we know the source of our crop. He also shared his own experience as to how he raised the nursery and planted coffee in his farm.

Amos Khiam, Assistant Inspector proposed vote of thanks and extended gratitude to all the participants for attending the training.
