Initiative aligned with UN SDGs goals empower church leaders in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, February 26 (MExN): The Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) organised the 2nd ‘The Art of Life in Fullness’ programme in collaboration with Mokokchung Ao Officers Telongjem (MAOT) at ABAM Resource Centre Kangtsung (Ao Penzu), Mokokchung from February 24 to 26.

‘The Art of life in Fullness’ programme is designed to equip and empower the church leaders with necessary tools and techniques to experience the fullness of life and for all round excellence. The Art of Life aligns with the United Nation’s 17 Sustainable Development goals.

On day two of the programme, Dr Sarendi Walling, ACTO, Animal Science, KVK, Mokokchung and Imtisenla, ACTO, (Agronomy), KVK, Mokokchung dwelling on the topic ‘Importance of Soil Health and Integrated livestock Farming' said, “Integrated farming focus on sustainability, a farming method that aims to meet the needs of the present and future, while preserving the environment and social equity.”

Dr Walling emphasised that the major component that deals in this system is maintenance of soil fertility through crop diversification. This system provides better utilization of resources efficiently, where waste is a resource. They also shared how to maintain soil health through crop rotation, organic manure, compositing, Bio-fertilizer and vermicompost, Dr Walling added.

Sharing on the topic Importance of co-operative society, Tsulensa Jamir, Inspector of Co-operative societies, Mokokchung spoke about 'the concept of co-operative society and the principles that are incorporated in a co-operative society'.

The topic on Integrated Fish farming was presented by K Nuken Kichu, Assistant Fishery Officer and Temsuwapang Longchar, Assistant Fishery Inspector.

On the first day, Maong Jamir, Secretary and Finance, ABAM in his welcome and introductory address maintained that the main objective of the programme is a holistic approach for the church workers to learn and put into practice, to impart their skills and knowledge in their respective areas.

Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture and beyond was shared by I Lipokonen Jamir, Joint Director SARS & President MOAT. Skills and jobs was shared by Er T Imlisunep, Principal ITI, and Transformative Industrialization Schemes & Export Avenues was delivered by Imtiwapang, Inspector DIC, Mokokchung.
