Nagaland: 18 teachers honoured with State Level Teachers Award

Eighteen teachers from different parts of the state were honoured with State Level Teachers Award 2023 at the State Level Teachers’ Day Celebration 2023 at NBCC convention hall, Kohima on September 5 under the aegis of Department of School Education, Nagaland. It included 13 awardees belonging to government schools and five from private schools.

Awardees from Government schools: R Ronald Meru, Post Graduate Teacher (History) at GHSS Pungro, Kiphire: Meru takes one to one approach in teaching learning process. He was a recipient of District Teacher's Award 2018. The pass percentage of his students for the last 2 years at HSSLC Examination was 92% and 89% respectively. He is a member of School Discipline Committee and SMDC. His contributions include encouraging students by awarding best students and giving them career guidance, teaching students the art of carpentry, home visitation and interacting with student's parents, teacher tour guide during educational trips and repairing the school with his carpentry skills free of cost.

Shekuto Rhakho, Post Graduate Teacher (History) GHSS Chozuba, Phek: One of his student secured History Subject Topper in HSSLC Examination 2019. Under his guidance, a student received scholarship for academic excellence from YouthNet 2023. He has received the District Teacher's Award in 2022. He has also participated as a guide in Kala Utsav at district level 2021 and at National level 2022. His contribution includes active member of anti bullying committee, member of SMDC coordinating for Jhanbhagidari event in 2022.

T Kusi Trakha, Sr Graduate Teacher, GHS Phoyisha (Yisi), Phek: She teaches Social Sciences in class 10, and pass percentage in her subject for the year 2021 and 2022 is 100% and 96% respectively. She is a recipient of Sub- Divisional Teacher's Award in 2016 and District Teacher's Award in 2021. Her student's-centered approach has enabled student to think critically. Because of her active involvement with the community, she has also received of certificate of commendation for being the first women secretary in the history of village council administration in Pochury area. Her attendance for the last three years is 98%.

Suman Bhagat, Graduate Teacher, GHS Sahuboto, Zunheboto: Bhagat teaches Mathematics for classes 3 to 8. He received the District Teachers Award in 2015 (DTA), Sub-Divisional Award in 2012. He received Certificate of Honour from Ministry of Home Affairs Government of India in 2011. His contributions includes counseling of dropout students when necessary, identifying the weaker and gifted students and giving special attention for their improvement and taking maximum free classes voluntarily whenever teachers are absent.

M Chemnyei Konyak, Primary Teacher, GMS Mon Town 'D', Mon: Chemnyei teaches Mathematics and Science for Classes 4 & 5. He is described as one of the most sincere and regular teacher in the school and gives his best to impart knowledge to the children. He received the District Teachers Award in 2006. He works with dedication for the overall improvement of the school along with the community, parents and teachers.

M Phongnyei Changkhu, Post Graduate Teacher GHS School, Aboi: Changkhu is serving as Post Graduate Teacher (Political Science) at GHSS Aboi. Under his guidance, 8 students secured distinction in HSSLC Examination 2022 and 10 students secured distinction this year. He received the District Teachers Award in 2020. He has made immense contributed by encouraging and helping low performing students who otherwise would not have continued their studies and also taking part in civil societies and governmental department flagship programmes.

Talitemsu, Graduate Teacher, GHS Yachem, Longleng: Talitemsu teaches Maths and Science for classes 9 and 10. Talitemsu has sacrificed for the students by arranging coaching classes and monitoring them day and night and because of his devotion the school could achieve 100% pass in the HSLC Examination 2023. Also in his subject students got distinction which was a record for the Government Schools in Longleng district. He received the District Teachers Award in 2020. He participated as Teacher Guide for Science Exhibition and Seminar 2022. His contribution includes initiating fund rise to renovate school building, counseling the students and supervising all round development of the school.

I Asenla, GHS Yaongyimchen, Longleng: At present she teaches English for Classes 9 & 10. She is described as sincere, regular and punctual in her duties and shows genuine interest in supporting children of uneducated parents. For this, she was awarded the Best Teacher by Yaongyimchen Students Union. She received the District Teachers Award in 2014. She motivates the students in every possible way, even to the extent of providing financial help to the students, so as to encourage them to do better and continue their studies.

N Abenthung Kithan, Graduate Teacher (SSA) GHS Mungya, Wokha: Kithan and teaches Science and Mathematics for Classes 4, 5 & 8. He also teaches Science for Class 10 students at GHSS Chukitong. He received the District Teachers Award in 2020. His contributions involves teaching sign languages/alphabets to lower class to promote and improve understanding spelling skills and also ability to communicate with deaf students in the school, narration of moral stories in morning assembly, conduct of awareness programmes on importance of health and hygiene, environmental protection, natural disaster and management. He also teaches music (keyboard & guitar) every last period of Thursday for Class 8. He has also donated Mini Projector to the school.

Yonga Langpong Chang, Post Graduate Teacher, GHSS Tuensang:  Lanpong is teaching Chemistry and Life Skills for Class 11 and 12 Students at GHSS, Tuensang. He received the District Teachers Award in 2021. He is sincere and dedicated in classroom teaching and in HSSLC Examination his students secured 100% Pass percentage in HSSLC Examination 2022. Also one of his students secured distinction in chemistry in HSSLC 2023. His contribution includes assisting the school administration in record maintenance and school activities, member of SMDC and school library and leader of Lighthouse (NECTAR), nodal officer for school scholarship, Swachh Bharat. He also takes initiative for out of school or dropout students. He was involved in designing school's chemistry laboratory.

Kikrukhrieii Yhome, Primary Teacher, GPS High School Area, Kohima: Yhome, is serving as Primary Teacher at GPS, High School Area, Kohima and teaches MIL. She actively shoulders all the development activities of the school and maintains the school fund with transparency. Under her, student's enrolment has increased and her school has one of the highest enrolments in the state as per space-student ratio. She received the District Teacher's Award in 2009. She has also contributed by motivating teachers and students and initiating best practices which has brought about much needed change and overall improvement in the school.

Martina Sekhose, Graduate Teacher Rüzhükhrie GHSS, Kohima: Sekhose, at present teaches Social Science for Class 9 & 10. She received the District Teachers Award in 2021. She is a member of school SMDC, member of Action Committee (Discipline), counselling students who are in need of special care and attention. She has the ability to inspire students to explore their gifts and skills to the utmost.

Viletuo-ü Sanchu, Primary Teacher GMS Botsa, Kohima: Sanchu is teaching Social Science for Class 5, English for Class 3 & 4. She also teaches Alternative English for Class B. She received the District Teachers Award in 2016. Her contribution includes involving actively in environmental protection drive in community and encouraging slow learners and helping them to learn by giving special attention.

Awardees from Private schools
Nath Kumari Sharma, Primary Teacher, Lornas HSS, Dimapur: Sharma teaches Mathematics at primary level. She is described as one who gracefully embrace inclusive education and has the capability to push the limit of human potential and inspire them to dream big dreams. With innovative approaches, she has developed good rapport and cooperation among the students making learning fun for them. She has received the District Teachers Award in 2019. Besides teaching, she takes care of the co-curricular activities in the school.

Regina, Asst teacher, St John HSS Tuensang: Presently Regina is serving as an Asst. teacher in St John HSS Tuensang. She is a recipient of the District Teachers Award 2015. She has also received the school's Best Teacher Award in 2016. She is innovative, skillful and a dedicated teacher. She spends some of her earnings to get the teaching aid for her class. She makes effort to understand every student's family background to help and teach them according to their ability. She was instrumental in getting the state level Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar in 2021-22 to the school. Her contribution unity includes helping the slow learners with free tuition at home, helping to solve the issues arising between teachers and students and advocating for general cleanliness and personal hygiene.

Diwakar Mishra, Don Bosco HSS, Kohima: Mishra teaches Mathematics in class 11 & 12. He is a recipient of District Teacher's Award 2014. He is instrumental in the growth of the students not only academic but also in the overall development. He looks into other important aspects of the school like, conduct of school and board examination. He is also a member of External Evaluation Team. His contribution includes dedicating his time and energy in community education by teaching in night school and giving personal attention to weak and needy students by giving free tuition, extra classes, providing them with text books and other stationary materials.

Akoon Konyak, Headmaster, Sacred Heart School, Mon:  Akoon is a recipient of District Teacher's Award in 2017. His attendance for the last three years is 100%. He teaches Social Sciences in class 10 and 5 students secured state highest marks in 2022. The pass percentage in his subject for three consecutive years 2020 to 2022 is 100%. He uses children's unique strength to help them overcome their struggles and build positive self confidence. He is a member of Red Cross Society. In recognition of his outstanding service to the community, he was awarded with the Certificates of Appreciation by ANPSA Mon Unit in 2016. He participated in Global Education workshop in 2018.

Rina Dey, Holy Cross HSS Dimapur: Dey teaches Science subject. She is a recipient of District Teacher's Award in 2012 and she also received certificate of appreciation from the school for her innovation, resourcefulness and extraordinary devotion to duty and boundless enthusiasm. She initiates reflective listening to create respect for the feeling of the students. Her competence in teaching has contributed to the progress of the school. She mentored students through challenging situations. She has worked in All India Radio Kohima in broadcasting, Science Programme. She has also worked with Child Help Foundation. Her attendance for the last three years is 100%.
