Dimapur, April 18 (MExN): A workshop for teachers was organized on the topic ‘role of teachers in facilitating life skill in class’ at Can Youth Office, Dimapur on April 17 with Yaimi Jagoi, faculty of The Global Open University, Nagaland and Training Consultant, YouthNet as resource person.
The workshop was organized for the target intervention two Government School Sarbura and Darogapathar under Project SPATIAL (Students, Parents, Teachers Involvement for authentic learning) by AIDA in collaboration with Can Youth and Supported by Childaid Network, informed a press release issued by Lairing Dau Jigdung, Project Coordinator.
Yaimi Jagoi in the session shared the meaning of life skill and its methods to be used in daily life activity. She focused on the techniques and methods of teaching, where the educators have to get adapted to new trends of the education system making it more interesting and should not hesitate to learn and follow new education methods.
Personalized instruction and relationship-building go hand in hand where teachers should build a relationship with the students and understand them through life skill related activity.
She carried out an activity “know your learner” for the participants which are related to teachers knowing their students. In the second activity, the teachers were given a task for self-reflection and answered the questions along with the situation.
She also facilitates different types of learning such as visual learning where the students learn fast by seeing rather than listening. The teachers were asked to list down various characteristics of visual, audio and kinesthetic learners.
Earlier, Jenpu Rongmi, Chief Functionary, Can Youth delivered the keynote address where he mentioned that community participation is important in enhancing quality education in schools for the students. He added theoretical education alone cannot bring about quality education but through life skill and practical education should be added in the course of education. He also requested the teachers to implement life skill teaching methods in the schools to cope with certain issues in life for the students.
The session ended with a closing remark by Jenpu Rongmei where he stated to bring justice to our own profession and hoped through this workshop the teachers will impart life skill methods in their daily class and make the environment friendly for the students and see how learning become more interesting through fun-activity and creating friendly learning space.
