‘Strategic approaches to peace building initiatives’ Peace Channel conducts programmes in Dimapur

Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): Peace Channel organized a training of trainers (ToT) programme on ‘Strategic Approaches to Peace Building Initiatives’ for women leaders and youths from over ten districts in Nagaland as trainers of peace-building initiatives in their respective districts.

The training was conducted on March 25 and 26 at Peace Channel Hall, Dimapur and attended by around 30 trainers throughout Nagaland.

Founder Director of Peace Channel, Dr C P Anto introduced the training and challenged the participants with ‘A Call for Peace’, which is a mission for every individual to promote and practice actions of peace and non-violence in their personal lives.

The belief in individual transformation is the prime foundation of peace-building initiatives and the same experiences can be impacted to the families and communities.

The resource persons for the training were, Vitono Haralu, Trainer, Garrol Lotha and Alan Paul Mathingso, Project Coordinators of Peace Channel.

The trainers were trained on the strategic approaches of Peace Channel, which works with the children in schools, youth in colleges and universities as well as the community leaders.

Practical sessions were also conducted for the clarity of roles as trainers one can play in their lives.

The trainers were also trained on dialogue processes, which is the key to non-violent resolution of issues and problems, Peace Channel informed in its press release on Friday.

Meanwhile, a peace forum meeting was also conducted at Zeliangrong village, Dhobinala in Dimapur at St Francis church on March 20.

Programme coordinator Caroline spoke about Peace Channel and its mission and activities.

She sought to help each person in the community to live a peaceful life and stressed the important role of women in nurturing peace in the families and communities.

Resource person Garrol Lotha spoke on ‘Dialogue- A method for peace building’.

While stating that tensions and conflicts are inevitable in life, she shared that it is up to us to understand one another, embrace each other’s differences and learn to live in peace.

Citing reasons that cause conflict, the resource person said that lack of wanting to understand what the other party is trying to convey can lead to divisions and escalation of conflict.

Only when one is ready for dialogue by listening, understanding and respecting the individual’s side of the story that we can find out ways to resolve the issue in an amicable manner, she added.

All of us have a role to play in ensuring that peace can prevail starting from our families first and then to our communities, she said.
