Dimapur, June 8 (MExN):  An ambulance service for COVID Vaccination Outreach Sessions in urban areas was launched on Tuesday by Dimapur Chief Medical Officer Dr I Moatemjen at SD Jain School, Marwari Patti.

The ambulance service was initiated by Jain Samaj Dimapur in collaboration with the Dimapur CMO Office to accelerate COVID vaccination, according to a press release from District Programme Officer UIP/RCH Dr Rebecca Sema.

During the launch, Secretary of SD Jain Charitable Clinic Narender Jain stated that the Jain Samaj was pleased to collaborate with the CMO office in the fight against the pandemic. He also expressed his gratitude towards the health department for allotting a vaccination center at Jain Charitable Center and hoped that the ambulance service would help speed up vaccination especially in urban areas.

President of Jain Samaj Om Prakash Sethi, President reassured that the Jain Samaj is eager and willing to continue their support to the Medical Department and urged the Department to call upon the Samaj for any future health activities without hesitation.

As per the release, Dr Moatemjen stated that while it is very difficult to be prepared for any pandemic or disaster, the state can overcome such calamities with when communities come forward to assist the Department and take social responsibilities. He also lamented that “the local people are not forthcoming towards the COVID-19 vaccine and instead spread rumors and misinformation, while majority of the non-locals are availing the vaccine,” and said that as per data, most of the COVID deaths were locals who were not vaccinated.

He further stated that through the COVID19 pandemic, ‘the good, the bad, and the ugly’ side of many individuals and organisations can be seen, “however, the pandemic has also brought our communities closer and together we will defeat the pandemic.” He further informed that Jain Samaj has been working with the Medical Department not only during the pandemic but also in the fight to eliminate Polio, and vector borne diseases in the past. He hoped that the Jain Samaj would continue their collaboration with the department in the future as well.

The programme was chaired by Dr Rebecca, DPO, UIP/RCH and other officials attending the programme were Dr Benchilo, DTO Dimapur and Rajesh, UNDP, the release stated.
